Iconic brawler Wanderlei Silva is 2-1 in his last three fights including wins over Michael Bisping and Cung Le. However, sandwiched in the middle of those victories was a 27-second knockout loss to Chris Leben, and Silva was only 1-5 in his six fights leading up to his decision over Bisping.
Given his struggle to find consistent success coupled with a questionable chin weakened from a 15-year career filled with full-on slugfests, even Silva is quick to point out he still has a ways to go to answer any questions surrounding whether or not he should retire.
“I think I took one step away from that wall,” said the 34-11-1 Silva in an interview with ESPN when asked if his knockout of Le had erased all doubts. “I still need to prove I can fight.”
Silva Takes Aim at Chael Sonnen
“I’m more healthy now than I was at 22 years because I train and live a really good life. We are not like machines; we can’t train as fast after years but I feel really happy and I want to give fans a good fight. When I can’t do that anymore, I’ll stop,” he added.
Silva fights Rich Franklin next Saturday night at UFC 147. The two clashed once before with Franklin coming out with a Unanimous Decision nod.
