Fabricio Werdum: “I expect it to be a great fight and to be able to finish it with a knockout or submission.”

This weekend UFC heavyweight Fabricio Werdum will go for his second consecutive win inside the organization’s infamous eight-sided cage since returning to the promotion after a stint in Strikeforce. However, more important to Werdum than a winning streak is the possibility of a title-fight in 2012.

Werdum spoke some about his fight at UFC 147 with Mike Russow where his confidence was clear based on how much he’s scouted the 15-1 Chicago cop.

Russow Relishes the Role of an Underdog

“With boxing, his game is simple he punches his way in, and when close to the cage goes for a takedown. Then he lands and stays on top. He comes out to the right side. I’ve watched his fights a lot,” explained Werdum in an interview with the UFC. “It’s important to watch the opponent’s fights, because the tendency is that he’ll repeat the moves. He always does the same moves – a lot of jabs and straights. He really wants the takedown and to stay on top scoring. He can lack cardio sometimes. He stays on a slow rhythm, so one of the things I need to do is impose my rhythm.”

“I expect it to be a great fight and to be able to finish it with a knockout or submission,” he concluded.
