Remarkable rematch between Rich Franklin-Wanderlei Silva named Fight of the Night

There was never any doubt the second meeting between Rich Franklin and Wanderlei Silva would result in an entertaining affair. However, few could have envisioned exactly how incredible the rematch would actually be.

Franklin and Silva locked horns last night at UFC 147 and turned in an all-time classic featuring a number of stiff shots, heated exchanges, and near finishes including “Ace” fighting his way back from the brink of defeat to pull out a decision win. The two legends were rightfully rewarded for their effort by UFC brass, notching Fight of the Night honors and earning an extra $65,000 as a result.

Knockout of the Night and Submission of the Night both went to a pair of athletes on the opposite end of the experience spectrum with each being awarded to UFC newcomers. The former was issued to Marcos Vinicius for his strike-based stoppage of Wagner Campos in the third round, while the latter distinction was assigned to BJJer Rodrigo Damm who was the only fighter on the lineup to tap his opponent out. Like Silva-Franklin, both Vinicius and Damm received an additional $65,000 bonus on top of their regularly contracted rate.
