When UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem’s suspension for a failed drug test runs out there will only be four days remaining in the year. However, since one also happens to be a Saturday there’s also a sliver of hope he could fight again before the clock strikes midnight on December 31 assuming the UFC holds a show on New Year’s Eve Weekend as the organization has done for years.
Overeem recently spoke up on his plans and, if all goes as he hopes, he’ll be booked for action in the waning moments of 2012 to both clear his name and re-establish himself as the division’s top contender.
Overeem Offers Up Explanation of Failed Drug Test
“I’ll be fighting again in December and mark my words, I’ll be back.. to get the belt, sooner rather later,” wrote Overeem on Twitter.
The 32-year old Dutchman was in line for a crack at Junior dos Santos’ championship before a random drug screening showed an elevated testosterone/epitestosterone level in his system later linked to a doctor-prescribed medication meant to help him recover from an injured rib. As a result he was issued a nine-month suspension retroactive to the date of the test (March 27).
