At the press conference to announce the event, UFC Asia Managing Director Mark Fischer stated, “This is certainly one of the single biggest sporting events to ever hit the Hong Kong and Macao area and the global attention this event will receive pays tribute to the birthplace of martial arts. We are honored to hold our first event in China at the world-class CotaiArena in Macau.”
Franklin (29-6) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Wanderlei Silva in their rematch at UFC 147. The former champion holds career wins over Chuck Liddell, Yushin Okami, Matt Hamill and Evan Tanner.
Le (8-2) picked up his first win inside the octagon when he outpointed Patrick Cote at UFC 148. Le, a Strikeforce alumni, has record seven of his eight career wins by some form of knockout.
In addition to the Franklin vs. Le main event, the following bouts have also been revealed for the UFC Macao fight card.
- Dong Hyun Kim vs. Paulo Thiago
- Stanislav Nedkov vs. Thiago Silva
- Tiequan Zhang vs. TBD
