Anderson Silva battling Stephan Bonnar in new UFC 153 headliner

It’s been more than three years since UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva fought at light heavyweight, beating former 205-pound champion Forrest Griffin in the opening round of action. However, Silva will return to the division next month after stepping up to serve as a headliner at UFC 153.

The show was left without a main event when featherweight king Jose Aldo went down with injury. Now, Silva will face Stephan Bonnar in the vacant slot while hoping to further cement his reputation as perhaps the greatest fighter MMA has ever seen.

Silva Plans to Fight Into his 40s

UFC officials have confirmed the match-up.

Bonnar hasn’t fought since November but has racked up wins in his last three outings. He holds an overall record of 14-7 including success against Krzysztof Soszynski and Keith Jardine.

By comparison, the 32-4 Silva is coming off a July win over Chael Sonnen and has yet to taste defeat since signing with the UFC more than five years ago. Along the way he’s compiled wins over a number of respectable adversaries including Rich Franklin, Yushin Okami, Demian Maia, Dan Henderson, and Vitor Belfort.
