UFC president Dana White tweeted the bad news earlier on Tuesday, “Rampage is hurt and out of UFC 153 RIO. SUCKS!!!!!!”. Shortly afterwards he followed-up with the news, “Now Aldo is out with foot injury. Main and co main in the same day!! Another amazing day at the UFC. We have some work to do.”
Aldo was set to defend his featherweight title in a highly anticipated clash against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Jackson, a former light heavyweight champion, was scheduled to meet Glover Teixeira in the co-main event of the fight card.
UFC 153 takes place from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on October 13th. There have been no announcements on replacements for Aldo and Jackson.
