Carlos Condit: “I feel like I did the right thing in waiting for Georges.”

With the UFC officially confirming Carlos Condit’s upcoming clash with Georges St-Pierre in November, the 28-year old “Natural Born Killer” can finally breathe a sigh of relief after putting his own career on hold in order to let the linear welterweight champion recover from a serious knee injury. Condit was awarded the division’s interim title after beating Nick Diaz in February, passing on opportunities to defend it against a number of worthy contenders while maintaining faith GSP would return on time to fight in 2012.

Though he received a good deal of criticism from fans who questioned his approach to competition, as well as the notion of an interim belt collecting dust, it seems clear Condit would make the same decision again if given a second go at the situation.

“My goal in this sport is to be the best in the world. Georges St-Pierre is the best fighter in the welterweight division. He has proven that time and time again. So, to be the best, I have to beat Georges. I feel like I did the right thing in waiting for Georges,” revealed Condit at a press conference today promoting UFC 154.

As far as his November 17 effort against St-Pierre, Condit stated he wasn’t focused on any particular flaws in his foe’s skills but rather set on entering the bout as prepared as possible in every facet of the sport.

“I think a lot of Georges opponents in the past looked at Georges and said this is where he’s weak, this is where I can beat him; that was a mistake. Georges is truly the best fighter in the world and that is not the approach I am taking,” explained Condit. “My approach is to be the best I can be.”
