UFC on Fuel 5 became the latest UFC card to undergo a change and its less than two weeks away! Earlier in the week, it was announced that Rich Attonito would be filling in for Pascal Krauss who had to pull out of his fight with Gunnar Nelson. The UFC has now confirmed that DaMarques Johnson will be stepping in to face Nelson at a catchweight of 175 pounds.
MMAJunkie initially reported the story though Johnson (16-11) has since confirmed via Twitter that he will be facing the newcomer at the Nottingham-bound event.
Nelson, a Renzo Gracie black belt, has finished all but one of his fights. While he is undefeated, his first professional fight was scored a draw.
Johnson, who is now 4-4 in the UFC, is most likely fighting to keep his job, though stepping in on short notice will certainly help his cause regardless of how he fares. He is currently riding a two-fight losing streak, most recently to the returning Mike Swick at the last FOX card in early August. Johnson, a former Ultimate Fighter contestant, was knocked out early in the second round.
The September 29 show is headlined by heavyweight action from Stefan Struve-Stipe Miocic. Other notable bouts on the UFC on Fuel 5 card include Paul Sass-Matt Wiman and Dan Hardy-Amir Sadollah.
