A lightweight bout pitting Thiago Tavares against Khabib Nurmagomedov is expected to be part of the UFC’s January 19th event in Brazil. The match-up was initially reported by Brazilian website Tatame on Friday.
Tavares (17-4) has won three of his past four bouts. He last competed at UFC 142 in January where he earned a unanimous decision win over Sam Stout. Tavares, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, has notched 11 of his career wins by submission.
The undefeated Nurmagomedov (18-0) is set to make his third appearance inside the octagon. He is coming off a unanimous decision win over veteran Gleison Tibau at UFC 148 in July. The well-rounded Russian has recorded six wins by knockout and seven by submission.
The exact event name and location has yet to be officially announced by the UFC. Also rumored for the fight card are match-ups of Nik Lentz vs. Diego Nunes and Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Ben Rothwell.
