The injury bug strikes again as a torn labrum has forced Chris Weidman to withdraw from his scheduled middleweight bout against Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch at UFC 155.
UFC officials confirmed on Wednesday that Weidman will be replaced in the fight by his teammate Costa Philippou. Philippou (11-2) was scheduled to face Nick Ring at UFC 154 before the bout was cancelled after Ring fell ill. He will bring a four fight winning streak into the bout. He last competed at UFC 148 where he earned a unanimous decision win over Riki Fukuda.
Boetsch (16-4) is also riding a four fight winning streak which coincided with his move down a weight class to compete as middleweight. He most recently recorded a split decision win over the Hector Lombard at UFC 149. At UFC 144, Boetsch scored a stunning third round come-from-behind technical knockout win over former title challenger Yushin Okami.
UFC 156 will take place in Las Vegas on December 29th. The event will be headlined by a heavyweight title bout between champion Junior dos Santos and former champion Cain Velasquez.
