WWE Corporate announced a new show, WWE Main Event, to be aired on the Ion Network. The show is set to feature RAW and Smackdown wrestlers and will air Wednesdays at 8 PM beginning on October 3.
“WWE Main Event will feature in-ring action and fit seamlessly in storylines from Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown, making Wednesday night appointment viewing for fans,” said WWE in their official press release. “The new series will offer a big arena experience with live audiences like current WWE weekly programs.”
With both RAW and Smackdown currently airing on cable, Main Event would be WWE’s only show on broadcast TV. No word yet on the show’s format, but it looks to be a showcase of matches filmed prior to the main shows, along the same lines as Superstars, which currently airs on WWE.com. No word either on whether Superstars will be kept around, or on how Ion will reschedule that timeslot’s usual reruns of The Beverly Hillbillies.
