Timeless Pro Wrestling Moments, Revisited: Robocop Unleashed

Are You Serious on YouTube is WWE’s weekly take on the classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 formula, except in lieu of Joel and Mike and their robot pals ragging on such cinematic masterpieces as Manos: The Hands of Fate and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, WWE presents the only occasionally irritating pair of Josh Mathews and Road Dogg and some puppet thing taking digs at WCW at every chance. This week, Mr. Mathews and Mr. Dogg revisit—finally—an unforgettable WCW moment in which Sting gets some unexpected help.

This clip’s been shared for years among easily amused nerds (*raises hand*) and it’s way past time that WWE has officially acknowledged Robocop’s contribution to the annals of pro wrestling history. Robocop’s one appearance was way awesomer than anything Eric Escobar or Glacier ever did, anyway. It’s frustrating that Mathews and El Perro de la Calle are way too cool to seriously appreciate the geeky majesty of Robocop slooooooowly meandering down the aisle as Sid and other bad guys stand there and just sort of wait for him, and then ripping open the fake cage door as easily as if it were a fake cage door that’s supposed to rip open.

If Drew Carey can get into the WWE Hall of Fame for acting freaked out by Kane for 45 seconds that one time, Robocop should be a shoo-in for 2013. Make this happen.

Are You Serious this week also features the hosts their sh*t over a clip of Ric Flair acting bonkers. Video of Flair goofed up on codeine and Pepto-tinis surely comprises a solid half of WWE’s video archives, so he’s always a good go-to guy for your online show where you make fun of crazy stuff. Even if going to that well is easy but kinda cheap, like when you watched Raiders of the Lost Ark for four days in that one awesome world history class.
