Two talented featherweights will share the Octagon in Montreal as Canada's own Antonio Carvalho has verbally agreed to take on talented American wrestler Darren Elkins at UFC 158: "St. Pierre vs. Diaz" on March 16, 2013.
The upcoming UFC 158 event just got a little bit deeper.
On top of yesterday's bantamweight bout between Gagnon and Tamura, the promotion has now added a very intriguing bout between featherweights Antonio Carvalho and Darren Elkins to the event, which takes place in about two months (March 16, 2013) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Carvalho (15-5) lost his UFC debut via decision, but a vicious first round knockout over Daniel Pineda and a conservative decision victory over fellow veteran Rodrigo Damm have put him back on track in the division. While not a household name, the adopted Canadian "Pato" is one of the most experienced fighters in the UFC featherweight division and still has plenty left in the tank.
Elkins (15-2) had mixed results as a lightweight in the UFC, but has looked incredible since making the cut to 145 pounds, winning all four of his fights including recent decisions over Diego Brandao and Steven Siler.
Elkins may not be the first fighter that comes to mind when you think of title shots at 145, but if he can do to Carvalho what he's done to everyone else at featherweight, he'll definitely be on the right track.
UFC 158: "St-Pierre vs. Diaz" goes down March 16 from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. A welterweight championship grudge match between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz serves as the main event while crucial 170-pound contests of Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald and Johny Hendricks vs. Jake Ellenberger fill the main card.
