When it comes to potential opponents for Strikeforce bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey there are a number of interesting choices out there considering the divisional depth. However, in the case of the foe fans most want to see her face – Cristiane Santos – the same cannot be said based on the Brazilian’s muscular physique and supposed inability to slim down from featherweight to fight at 135 pounds.
However, Rousey isn’t sympathetic to Santos’ plight on even a minimal level because she blames her for making the bed she’s now laying in.
“I think she’s a victim of her own cheating,” said Rousey in an interview with Sherdog Radio. “When she was doped up and she looked like she was so head-over-heels above all these girls, it made the women’s division look bad. Then she cleaned out her own division because of that. Now she’s having to deal with the consequences of it. No one’s going to want to fight a cheater. I’m pretty much her only option and I’m chock full of options.”
As far as Santos’ claim regarding her doctor’s warnings about shedding the necessary ten pounds to make bantamweight, Rousey openly questioned if he was also the same physician who gave her steroids leading up to a December 2011 fight “Cyborg” ultimately tested positive after.
“She’s been exposed as a fraud. She hasn’t won a real fight, a real recorded fight, in two years. For her to come back from her suspension and be like, ‘I want a title fight and I want it at the weight I want, and I want, I want, I want’ — where are all these demands and sense of entitlement coming from,” asked Rousey rhetorically. “Shouldn’t you be wanting to prove yourself to everybody else? That, ‘Yeah, I can do this. I don’t need drugs. I can make 135. I can beat her anyway.’ I think she’s showing a lot of insecurity on her part.”
For now, it seems the super-fight between the women is as far away from coming to fruition as it has ever been. Rousey has instead turned her attention to a November 3 meeting between former title-contender Liz Carmouche and unbeaten Olympic silver-medalist Sara McMann, while Santos is simply waiting for her suspension to run out in a few months before making her next move.
