Jon Jones only strained arm in win over Vitor Belfort

When iconic competitor Vitor Belfort locked one of light heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ lanky limbs in an Armbar at UFC 152 it looked as though the talented Brazilian was about to shock the world, pulling off what would have been the biggest upset since Matt Serra took Georges St-Pierre’s strap five years ago. However, Jones was able to tough it out and didn’t tap, escaping the hold and going on to eventually earn a submission victory a few frames later.

Though he escaped with a victory, Jones didn’t exit the bout without damage and was shown wearing a sling on his arm shortly thereafter. Despite fears of the need for surgery or permanent damage, it has since been revealed that Jones should be fine after undergoing some rehab.

News of Jones’ condition was confirmed this week on UFC Tonight. His need to heal up was also associated with the UFC’s decision to book “Bones” as a coach on the Ultimate Fighter 17, giving him six months off to recover while building interest in an April effort against Chael Sonnen.

The 17-1 Jones’ successful title-defense against Belfort was his fourth straight since winning the belt from Mauricio Rua in March 2011.
