MFC 35: “Explosive Encounter” Results – Mutapcic Crowned Champion, Spencer Dominates Nelson

MFC 35: “Explosive Encounter” saw the crowning of the promotion’s new middleweight champion in the Mayfield Inn Trade and Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.

In the evening’s championship main event, Elvis handed Joseph Henle his first career loss. While both men seemed evenly matched through the first two rounds, the thunderous leg kicks of the “The King” would prove to be the difference maker. After one monstrous chop in the third stanza, Henle found himself on the ground as his leg gave out and he was unable to continue.  The middleweight from Des Moines would have his hand raised at 1:45 of the third frame, taking home the MFC Middleweight Champonship.

Surging featherweight prospect Graham Spencer continued to roll, pushing his undefeated streak to five. The Impact MMA product used his positional grappling to shut out Ultimate Fighter veteran Shane Nelson over the course of three rounds. After fifteen minutes, the Canadian would have his hand raised as the judges rendered a unanimous 30-27 decision in his favor.

In the heavyweight division, Smealinho Rama treated Ryan Fortin like a grappling dummy. On his second takedown attempt, Rama found himself in mount. As Fortin got to his feet, he found himself defending a kneebar. After a scramble, the undefeated was able to take the back of his opponent and lock in a rear-naked choke.

Middleweights Derek Parker and Jared McComb looked to settle the score in their second meeting, after having fought to a unanimous draw this passed May. The fighter from Regina would overwork and outstrike McComb. By the third, Parker had nothing left., his opponent battered him around the ring for the duration of the final stanza. Unfortunately for the hometown fighter, it was too little, too late. Parker would have his hand raised as the judges rendered a unanimous 29-28 in his favor.

Sabah Fadai forced Cody Krahn to tap with a triangle choke in the opening fame of their welterweight bout. Light heavyweight Paul Grabdbois punched out Jason Kuchera at 1:43 of the second stanza. Daniel Swaim defeated Matt Jelly after 15 minutes, as the lightweight out of Spokane, Washington would earn a unanimous 29-28 from the judges. Garrett Nyabakken ran through Jesse Veltri as he armbarred the 1-6 lightweight in just 84 seconds. Chase Degenhardt needed a little over five minutes to impress in his promotional debut, knocking out Chad Sherman at 41 seconds of the second round in the middleweight division.
