In fact, if he has his way, he’ll end up on one of the UFC’s remaining cards in 2012.
“I told the UFC I’ll fill in. Anybody that gets hurt in the middleweight division the next two months, I’m in,” revealed Stann in an interview with MiddleEasy. “I just want to get back in there and perform. I’ve got no injuries so hopefully I’m back in there by November/December and get a victory to close the year out, and then I’m gonna try and fight again two months later.”
The UFC has a number of relevant 185-pound pairings scheduled for the next couple of months that very well could require Stann’s services including December duels between Alan Belcher-Yushin Okami, Chris Weidman-Tim Boetsch, and Rousimar Palhares-Hector Lombard.
In addition to commenting on his own future, Stann also shared his thoughts on how he felt Bisping might fare if awarded a title-shot, offering a take even he admitted might surprise a few folks.
“Everybody’s gonna disagree with me but I’m telling you right now, Mike has a shot to beat Anderson Silva,” stated Stann. “He’s very difficult to hit because of his footwork, he’s extremely busy, he’s got the best cardio in the middleweight division, he can go five rounds and keep a faster pace than Anderson can, and I also believe that Mike will be able to take Anderson down and mix it up.”
“If Anderson doesn’t catch him early I think Mike has a shot to win three out of five rounds,” he concluded on the potential clash.
