Few, if any, stories from the long-running Ultimate Fighter franchise have elicited as many good feelings as that of recent winner Michael Chiesa. The 24-year old Chiesa, whose positive attitude and work ethic were infectious in themselves, suffered the loss of his father hours after being admitted into the house with an elimination-round victory. The death would prove to be an incredible source of motivation for the “Maverick” who found his way by beating every opponent he faced including Al Iaquinta this past June to claim the seasonal crown.
Chiesa won’t be getting any kind of break, however, as the bearded brawler has been booked against 15-5 Rafaello Oliveira at UFC on FOX 5. Officials have confirmed the match-up.
The Seattle-bound event will mark a homecoming of sorts for the 8-0 Chiesa who hails from Spokane, Washington. Six of his wins have come by way of submission including the opening round triumph he scored against Iaquinta.
Oliveira is also coming off an instance of summer success, scoring a decision over Yoislandy Izquierdo at UFC 148. He also holds a victory over John Gunderson inside the Octagon.
UFC on FOX 5 is headlined by a lightweight title-fight between champion Benson Henderson and surging contender Nate Diaz.
