Submission savant Shinya Aoki hasn’t taken to the cage since losing a strike-based stoppage to Eddie Alvarez in April. However, his lack of activity is certainly set to change in the immediate future after ONE FC confirmed Aoki would not only be competing later this month at ONE FC: Pride of a Nation but six weeks later at ONE FC: Rise of the Kings as well. The first bout will take place on August 31 with the follow-up performance on October 6.
No opponent has been announced for Aoki’s outing in a few weeks, though he is expected to face Arnaud Lepont in the second scrap. ONE FC CEO Victor Cui has confirmed both of the clashes.
Aoki holds an overall record of 30-6 with nineteen submissions to his credit. Among the individuals he’s taken out inside the ring are the likes of Alvarez, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Gesias Cavalcante, Joachim Hansen, and George Sotiropoulos. His loss to Alvarez a few months back snapped a seven-fight winning streak for the “Tobikan Judan”.
