Dana White: “If Frankie Edgar wants to stay at 155 he’s earned that right, he deserves that right, and he can do whatever the hell he wants.”

It looks like Frankie Edgar has finally proven himself as a legitimate lightweight in the eyes of UFC President Dana White after turning in a solid performance against champion Benson Henderson in a match-up many felt “The Answer” actually should have won. Leading up to last night’s throwdown between the two talented 155ers White had been critical of Edgar’s diminutive size, pressuring the former title-holder to drop down to featherweight rather than continually compete against larger opponents.

After the event White spoke about Edgar’s future where he shied away from talk about a 145-pound run, stating the 30-year old was now free to do what he wants without worrying about his employers pushing him in any one direction.

Edgar Upset About UFC 150 Scoring but Not Dwelling on Defeat

“I can’t make him go down at all,” said White in an interview with MMAFighting where he credited Edgar’s performances as of late. “I love this kid, I respect him, and I just think he’d do better at 145.”

“If Frankie Edgar wants to stay at 155 he’s earned that right, he deserves that right, and he can do whatever the hell he wants,” White concluded.

Edgar has not come out to announce his plans for the future, though it appears another lightweight title-fight is out of the question for awhile with Nate Diaz currently serving as #1 contender and Anthony Pettis-Donald Cerrone battling later this year for the next crack at divisional gold.
