UFC President Dana White went under the knife on Tuesday, undergoing an outpatient procedure to deal with Meniere's disease, an at times debilitating inner-ear condition that hampered him throughout 2012.
White was already on his way home to Las Vegas on Wednesday when he updated his status to Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com. Calling the surgery a success, White said the procedure went well.
Per the report, White added that his ear was "sore but that will go away in a few days," and that he was hopeful the pain he'd been experiencing from the disease would subside due to the procedure.
The issue caused White to miss his first event as President of the UFC in 2012, and he'll miss another this weekend, as he will not fly to Brazil for UFC on FX 7. The UFC has set up an area at their Las Vegas headquarters that will allow White to be involved in the event's production remotely. one he tested out last month when he did not fly to Australia for UFC on FX 6.
Penick's Analysis: It will take some time for White to recover, but if the surgery was a full success he might be able to avoid further episodes from the condition. It was cumbersome and painful throughout 2012, and now he hopes it will be a thing of the past. He won't know for awhile how well the surgery worked, but he's optimistic heading forward.
