Anderson Silva still isn’t interested in fight with Jon Jones

Just because fans will have an opportunity to see legendary champion Anderson Silva compete as a 205 pounder next weekend at UFC 153 doesn’t mean the masses should get used to the idea of “The Spider” fighting as a light heavyweight. Silva’s bout will mark the third time he’s fought in the division since signing with the UFC and it very well may be the last too.

“There’s always been a lot of talks about me moving up to 205, I know Dana White has talked about it a lot, all the fans have talked a lot about me moving up and facing Jon Jones, but it’s something I’ve never wanted,” explained Silva during a conference call with media promoting the October 13 event, adding that he also wasn’t interested in infringing on potential opportunities for teammates like Rafael Cavalcante and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to challenge for Jones’ title.

“I’m 37-years old and I feel like I need to be honest and to continue what I’ve built which is keep defending my belt at 185,” he concluded.

Silva is set to face Stephan Bonnar the upcoming event where he’ll go for a third straight win at light heavyweight, knocking out James Irvin and Forrest Griffin in the first frame of their respective rumbles. If he emerges from the bout with his hand raised Silva will improve his amazing streak in the Octagon to sixteen straight victories.
