Alexander Gustafsson suffers cut in training, UFC on Fuel 9 bout with Gegard Mousasi in jeopardy [UPDATED]

The main event for next weekend's UFC on Fuel 9 card in Sweden may be in jeopardy, as Swedish sites SVT Sport and MMANytt.se both report that Alexander Gustafsson has suffered a cut on his eyebrow in training.

The severity of the cut isn't yet known, and the fight isn't officially off, but it is now up to the Swedish MMA Federation to decide whether or not to clear him to fight on Saturday with the cut.

Gustafsson is scheduled to face Gegard Mousasi on Saturday's card, a fight which could determine the number one contender in the light heavyweight division. As of now, Mousasi's camp has not been told the fight is off, according to several reports, and it looks like it will come down to a medical examination from the SMMAF.

Penick's Analysis: Considering what else is on this card, the UFC really can't afford to lose this fight on a week's notice. The event will likely still go on, seeing as it's overseas, and on Fuel instead of pay-per-view, but it would be a very unfortunate loss for the fans in Sweden if their hometown fighter isn't allowed to go. Hopefully the cut isn't too severe and he can be cleared; if not, it's going to put the UFC in a very bad spot this week.

UPDATE: MMANytt.se has updated their report with word from the SMMAF, who has confirmed Gustafsson's injury, and say they're 99% sure Gustafsson will not be approved to fight. Per the report, three separate doctors checked it and believe it will take weeks to heal.
