A lightweight bout between John Makdessi and Edson Barboza has been added to the UFC 162 fight card slated for July 6 in Las Vegas.
UFC officials announced the new bout on Friday.
Makdessi (11-2) is fresh off of a victory over Daron Cruickshank at UFC 158, which followed up a win over Sam Stout at UFC 154. Those back-to-back victories ended a two-fight skid that had Makdessis UFC tenure teetering on the brink.
Makdessi is currently 4-2 in the Octagon, but UFC 162 will mark only the second time that he has fought for the UFC outside of his home country of Canada.
Barboza (11-1) had his spotless career smudged by Jamie Varner at 146 last year, but quickly bounced back with a first-round stoppage of Lucas Martins at UFC on FX 7 in Brazil in January.
He and Makdessi will be fighting for the next rung on the lightweight ladder when they square off on the UFC 162 undercard in support the Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman main event.
