Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche headlines UFC 157

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will defend her title against Liz Carmouche in the main event of UFC 157. The match-up will be the first women’s MMA bout in the history of the UFC. UFC President Dana White made the announcement at the pre-fight press conference for UFC on FOX 5 while also awarding Rousey her championship belt.

Rousey (6-0), the former Strikeforce champion, was the first female fighter signed by the UFC. She has exploded into a MMA and media superstar in 2012. Rousey has won all six of her fights by armbar submission in the first round. She captured the Strikeforce title in an amazing clash with Miesha Tate in March then successfully defended the belt by defeating Sarah Kaufman in August.

Carmouche (7-2), a former U.S. Marine, stepped up to take the first shot at Rousey’s UFC gold. She has won her last two fights by stoppage while competing under the Invicta banner. This includes a second round submission of Kaitlin Young and a first round technical knockout of Ashleigh Curry.

UFC 157 takes place on on February 23rd from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
