Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney announced during Friday’s Bellator 83 that injures have forced War Machine (aka Jon Koppenhaver) out of their welterweight tournament which begins in January 2013. Shortly afterwards War Machine confirmed the news on Twitter that he had a torn ACL and fractured tibia.
I guess the cat is out of the bag. 2 weeks ago I tore my ACL and fractured my tibia. I will not be in @bellatormma next tourney on @spiketv

Bellator’s events will be televised in Spike TV beginning in 2013. Bellator and Spike kicked off a “Vote for the Fight” campaign which allowed fans to vote for two welterweights who would square off in the fist fight. War Machine and Paul Daley won the contest which also included Ben Saunders and Douglas Lima. Despite the setback War Machine looks forward to the fight, “Since Paul Daley and I won the “Fan Vote Fight” @BellatorMMA will still honor the fans wishes and I will fight him once I am healed up.”
