The UFC was hoping the injury bug might just skip a stacked December slate, but alas, it's continued on with a vengeance. The year has seen countless matchups derailed by injuries, and it continues today as UFC President Dana White announced on Twitter that Forrest Griffin has suffered a serious knee injury.

Though it wasn't explicitly stated, White's Tweet implied that Griffin is out of his UFC 155 bout with Phil Davis later this month.

"Forrest Has MCL tear and ACL strain," White wrote. "20 cc's of blood removed from his knee and the saga continues at the UFC!!"

Griffin's is just the latest in a string of high profile knee injuries in the sport as of late. UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre just returned last month from an ACL tear that required surgery, and UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz was forced to go under the knife a second time last week after his body rejected the first replacement ligament for his ACL.

Penick's Analysis: This is really disappointing news. I was actually growing to the idea of this matchup, as Griffin's crafty on the ground, and this was one the first matchups he's had in a while - outside of the Tito Ortiz fight - where he wasn't facing a heavy handed striker. It was also a chance for Davis to get a big win in the division, and now he's left without an opponent. It's an unfortunate blow to UFC 155 as well, as it was shaping up to be one of the more stacked fight cards in recent memory. If they don't find a replacement to face Davis, though, it could open up an opportunity for another fighter to get a featured spot.
