Chris Cariaso fighting Jussier Formiga at UFC on FX 8

In a division as wide-open as the UFC’s flyweight class every win is especially important. As such, though Chris Cariaso and Jussier Formiga each came up short in their most recent efforts, one of the two will find himself right back in title-contention with a victory when the duo dukes it out on May 18 in Brazil.

According to TATAME, the two have been scheduled for a tilt at UFC on FX 8. UFC officials have not confirmed their addition to a card currently featuring Vitor Belfort-Luke Rockhold in the main event.

Cariaso (14-4) had a three-fight winning streak laid to waste after being tapped out by current #1 contender John Moraga. Beyond the standard stakes, his bout with Formiga may be especially important given the UFC’s desire to see exciting efforts, as ten of Cariaso’s wins have come via decision.

The 14-2 Formiga was seen by many as MMA’s top 125er entering the Octagon but quickly had his status revoked thanks to a John Dodson knockout last October. Seven of his victories have involved a submission.
