In a fight to ostensibly determine the next challenger to Jon Jones' UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, Lyoto Machida circled, feinted and dodged his way to a lackluster split decision victory over Dan Henderson.
In a very tepid affair, the elusive Machida relied on angles and distance to avoid Dan Henderson's vaunted right hand. Other than the last five seconds of the first round, and a couple of minutes in the third round, the entire contest played out on the feet.
With ten seconds left in round one, Machida landed a trip takedown from a body lock and landed several quick punches and elbow as the horn sounded. The third round saw Henderson get a takedown on Machida, but was unable to land any significant offesne during that time.
Despite the wrath of the Anaheim, CA audience, Machida improves his MMA record to 19-3 (11-3 UFC) with this victory over Henderson. Henderson, in his first fight since his war with Mauricio Rua in November 2011, sees his record drop to 29-9 (6-3 UFC).
