=====Fuel TV Main Card=====
FIGHT ONE: ROBERT PERALTA VS. AKIRA CORASSANI (FEATHERWEIGHT)
- Peralta has 4 inches of reach on Corassani. Both fighters are the same height. Just don't ask me to metric-ize any of it, aight?
ROUND ONE: Kristian Hacklou is the referee. Yes, THAT Kristian Hacklou, not the other one. Corassani is staying on the outside circling and feinting. Peralta has missed several big punches already. Peralta gets inside and lands a good uppercut, then puts Corassani on the cage. They disengage with no harm, no foul. Corassani lands a big right hook. Peralta hasn't figured out the riddle of Corassani's footwork yet. Peralta is getting a little frustrated. Corassani ducks under a hook and shoots a double. Corassani has Peralta back against the cage with about 45 seconds left. Peralta eventually turns Corassani into the cage, but doesn't do anything with it. 10-9 Corassani
ROUND TWO: Peralta Corassani comes out kicking to begin the round. Corassani's still dancing and using great footwork to control the range. Peralta lands a decent right hand and gets Corassani into the cage. Peralta grabs a Thai clinch and hits a knee as they disengage. Peralta landed nice combo, which was his best sequence of the fight. Until now, BIG right hand, and Corassani is down. Peralta pounces and pounds away until Corassani gets back to his feet. Peralta has Corassani against the cage now. Corassani is starting to come back to his senses. Knee to the body by Peralta. After an active stalemate Corassani gets Peralta's back against the wall. Peralta lands a short elbow. Corassani disengages and lands an overhand right that staggered Peralta for a moment. Peralta switches to southpaw as the round ends. 10-9 Peralta
ROUND THREE: Corassani comes out more aggressive in the beginning of the round. Might not be the best decision since fighting in close range negates his footwork advantage. Nice right hand by Peralta. And a shot to the body. Corassani shoots and gets Peralta on his back. Peralta's looking for a kimura from the bottom, but gives it up. Peralta gets to his feet but Corassani takes his back and gets him back down. An back up... and back down. Peralta's on his butt with his back against the fence. Corassani is on his feet trying to step over into mount. Peralta stands, Corassani gets on his back. Two minutes left, and Peralta will lose this fight if things don't change fast. Corassani loses back control. Peralta lands two knees and presses Corassani into the cage. Corassani reverses. It's not as exciting as I make it sound. Peralta's going for knees to the thigh, because those win fights.. Corassani is busted open from the high forehead. Takedown by Corassani, and that's going to seal this one. Disappointing performance by Robbie Peralta, who came in on a ten-fight unbeaten streak. 10-9 Corassani, and 29-29 Corassani
WINNER: Akira Corassani by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: (**-) there was very little action in that fight. Corassani's footwork was impressive, and Peralta was unable to adjust.
FIGHT TWO: DIEGO BRANDO VS. PABLO GARZA (FEATHERWEIGHT)
- Garza has a whopping 9 inch reach advantage and a 6 inch heaight advantage. Yikes!
ROUND ONE: Marko Gylleland is the referee for this fight. No, not THAT Marko Gylelland, but the one who, well, you know wchich one. Brandao would be wise to avoid the clinch tonight. Brandao comes out with leg kicks, but Garza's able to back away from them rather easily. Garza isn't using his reach well, as Brandao is backing him up without actually throwing anything. Brandao gets clinched and eats a knee to the gut, but he ends up getting the takedown. Brandao is on top, in half-guard. Brandao is working diligently to get to mount, but sees an arm triangle and slides to side-control. This is going to finish Garza. Yep. It's over. Garza has never looked worse. Brandao is very talented, but Garza didn't show up. I think his brain is still stuck in customs.
WINNER: Diego Brandao by submission (arm-triangle choke) at 3:27 of round one.
STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: (**) This looked like a Superstars of Wrestling squash match, circa 1987. As good as Brandao might be, it's hard to give him a lot of credit because Garza fought scared. Well, no he didn't. To say he fought scared would lead one to infer that he actually fought.
- Fuel TV wisely finds time to shoehorn in Conor McGregor's impressive KO victory of Marcus Brimage. Uppercut Madness!
FIGHT THREE: BRAD PICKETT VS. MIKE EASTON (BANTAMWEIGHT)
ROUND ONE: The referee for this fight is Leon Roberts. There is only one Leon Roberts. Pickett's working the jab early as Easton is looking for leg and body kicks. Easton grabs a Pickett kick and is working hard for a takedown off the single leg. Easton pushes Pickett into the cage. Easton is not able to do much, as Pickett is defending well. Pickett lands two hard elbows and turns Easton into the the fence. Pickett backs off and we're back to the middle. 2 minutes left, give or take. Pickett is trying to set up the uppercut. Easton lands a left hook. Pickett shoots a double but gets thoroughly stuffed. Easton with a nice head kick. Easton ducks under and gets Pickett on his back. Pickett manages to get up, which was impressive because he was pushed into the cage pretty tightly. Pickett responds with a takedown of his own. That's the first time Eason's ever been taken down in the UFC. Easton gets back up, but Pickett has his back while standing. 10-9 Pickett
ROUND TWO: Easton lands a big right hand to start off the round. Easton lands a nice standing knee, and follows up with a head kick. Standing knee to the body by Easton. Easton is really controlling this round so far after a close round 1. Easton lands another standing knee. Pickett just misses with an uppercut. Pickett gets Easton down for a millisecond, but Pickett stays on him and has Easton's back against the fence. Pickett picks him up and slams him down. Easton pops right back up like the canvas were a spring. Knee by Easton. Easton and Pickett trade uppercuts before Easton backs out. Easton shoots a double and gets Pickett down in the middle of the cage. Half-guard. Easton's going for a kimura, doesn't have it, and back to standing. This is good stuff. Pickett runs the pipe but can't get Easton down. 45 seconds remain. Pickett seems to be wearing out. Pickett gets shoved into the cage. Pickett with a knee. Easton with a spinning back elbow. Pickett is landing uppercuts. Easton is responding with big shots of his own. No pretense of defense to end the round. Great stuff! 10-9 Easton. 19-19
ROUND THREE: Scores from media on Twitter are all over the place. Expect a lot of people to complain about the cards on this one no matter who wins. Easton goes back to the standing knee ot the body. Pickett misses a wild uppercut. There was no setup, no feint, no jab. Easton ducks under a straight right and takes Pickett down. Before Easton can do anything Pickett sweeps and gets top position. That was a beautiful reversal by Pickett. Easton has full guard, and is trying to stall to get a standup. Pickett pass to half-guard after landing a few short elbows. Easton rolls to his stomach to get back up. He's standing, but Pickett has his back. Nice slam by Pickett. Easton back to his feet immediately, and Pickett gets him back down. Pickett going for a guillotine, but Easton gets out. Pickett still has the position to get a guillotine. Easton's turtled, and Pickett has north-south. Pickett lets go, and we're back to standing with a full minute left. Pickett working the jab. As is Easton. Pickett lands a knee which forces Easton to stop coming forward. Easton lands a nice right hook. It's rock em sock em robots to end the fight. That was a great fight! 10-9 Pickett. 29-28 Pickett The score cards are going to be very interesting.
WINNER: Brad Pickett by split decision (28-29, 30-27, 30-27)
STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: (***+) No complaints here. I have nothing bad to say about this fight. Pickett and Easton really brought the leather, and spent plenty of active time on the floor as well. I wish there were more fights like this one.
FIGHT FOUR: MATT MITRIONE VS. PHIL DEFRIES (HEAVYWEIGHT)
ROUND ONE: Marc Goddard is the referee for this fight. DeFries dives in for a takedown and gets stuffed. He tries again and Meathead knocked him out. DeFries shot, and get stuffed. I mean, he got stuffed immediately stopped boom stuffed dead. Imagine a full speed double leg into a redwood. DeFriens shot a double into a redwood, fell on his ass, and Meathead knocked his ass OUT COLD.
WINNER: Matt Mitrione by KO at 0:19 of round one
STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: (**+) Um, wow?
FIGHT FIVE: ROSS PEARSON VS. RYAN COUTURE (LIGHTWEIGHT)
- This is Pearson's second fight since returning to lightweight. Couture, who is the son of Ra**CENSORED BY UFC MANAGEMENT**ure, is on a 4-fight win streak.
- Couture is 4 inches taller than Pearson, and has a seven inch reach advantage. None of which worked out well for Pablo Garza earlier tonight.
ROUND ONE: Leon Roberts is the referee for this fight. Couture shoots and gets stuffed easily. He does manage to get Pearson on the fence though. Pearson reverses as Couture attempts a high knee. Couture regains the position, and is trying to grab a single. Couture gives up the leg and lands a knee to the ribs. 15 minutes of this will lead to me committing suicide. Just a fair warning. Couture gets a trip after 2 minutes of that, and Pearson gets back up 0.235 seconds later. Couture tries a high knee, but Pearson shoves him off and we're back to the middle of the cage. Couture is circling one way, then the other, trying to avoid fighting. Pearson lands a nice kick. Watching Couture "fight" is like watching Santino Marella when he debuted with the WWE. Avoid contact at all costs. Pearson tries a knee and gets put on the cage for his efforts. Pearson lands a knee and a left hook which drove Couture back. 10-9 Pearson
ROUND TWO: Pearson lands a nice left early while Couture does his damnedest to avoid all physical contact. Couture manages to get Pearson back into the fence and hits a couple of knees to the body of Pearson. Couture disengages and lands a kick and a punch. Pearson lands a nice right that briefly puts Couture on Kalib Starnes' bicycle. Couture is doing a good job avoiding Pearson's strengths: fighting. Pearson lands a left hand. Pearson catches a straight kick and trips Couture. Couture is eats several left hands before getting back up. Pearson lands a left kick to the body as Couture gets up, and then unloads with left hooks until Couture crumples to the ground. This thing is over. Mercifully.
WINNER: Ross Pearson by TKO at 3:45 of round 2.
STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: (*+) Couture is my least favorite fighter to watch, with his father being my second least favorite fighter to watch. Duller than watching a well preserved corpse decompose. Couture is the least deserving fighter on the roster, and now that his father's last name isn't going to get him any nepotism equity, he really needs to be fighting elsewhere. Not that you can call what he does fighting, of course. As for Pearson, this win does nothing for him, because who did he beat, right? That said, the final left hook that dropped Couture was a beautiful killshot, and the finishing sequence was nasty as all get-out. I'd like to see Pearson vs. a professional next time out.
- Pearson told Kenny Florian in the post-fight interview that he broke his foot warming up in the back. So even on one foot... I've piled on enough.
FIGHT SIX: GEGARD MOUSASI VS. ILIR LATIFI (LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT)
- Mousasi is listed as being 4 inches taller than Latifi. With a 2.5 inch reach advantage.
- On a personal note, I hope that at the very worst Latifi looks good and earns a couple more fights. Not a lot of guys play the cards offered to him in taking this fight.
ROUND ONE: Marc Goddard has drawn the assignment for the main event. Stiff jab from Mousasi finds a home. One punch, and Latifi's eye is noticeably reddened. Lots of feints from Mousasi. Latifi shoots and gets stuffed. Mousasi pushes Latifi into the cage. Moussi misses a big right as they separate. Latifi landed a lef hook to the ear. Mousasi shrugged it off. Latifi is missing more punches than Leonard Garcia in the Matrix. Mousasi is landing a ton of jabs. Latifi is throwing everything with murderous intent. He lands a left hook, which got a rise out of the crowd. Mousasi isn't taking any chances, which will make Uncle Dana super-duper happy. Right hand from Mousasi. Latifi felt that one big time. Mousasi has no respect for Latifi, his hands are at his waist. Latifi's left eye is a mess, from that one right hand. Another jab lands. Mousasi is hand-checking anything Latifi throws now. Latifi is trying to taunt Mousasi into making a stupid decision as the round ends. this is not going to end well for the Swede. 10-9 Mousasi
ROUND TWO: Latifi begins the round by jabbing Mousasi's palm. I wonder if those count as landed strikes or not. Latifi got through with a straight left. He's found a home with the left hook once or twice as well. I wonder if that will inspire Mousasi to be more aggressive. Mousasi working the body. Latifi lands a big right to the shoulder/neck area. Jab by Mousasi. and another. Mousasi with a jab to the body. Nice left hook by Mousasi, and that made Latifi circle out. Mousasi is doing a great job of keeping Latifi in his range. Another jab. and 2 more. Latifi bounces off the cage and shoots. Mousasi sprawls and stuff Latifi. Mousasi's hands are really low. Mousasi's footwork is so freaking good. I mean, just beautiful. Mousasi with a kick to the body. Triple jab. Double jab. Mousasi's hands at his waist now. 20-18 Mousasi
ROUND THREE: Heavy outside leg kick by Latifi which made his fans cheer for a moment. Jab. Right to the body. outsid eleg kick. All Mousasi, of course. Leaping jab form Mousasi. 2 more jabs, with a Latifi leg kick in between. Mousasi with right. And another. Latifi isn't being allowed to circle away from Mousasi's power because Mousasi is just toying with him with the fotowork and jab. Right hand from Mousasi. And a kick. Mousasi eats a right hook. Mousasi shrugged it off, but he has to have felt it. Latifi is bleeding from his face so much that there's blood on his chest now. 2-3 combo from Mousasi. 90 seconds left. Mousasi with his hands wide like Nick Diaz. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Missed right hook from Latifi. Jab. Leg kick by Mousasi, caught by Latifi, and Latifi takes him down. Mousasi made a mistake there, but he's going to ride it out. Latifi lands a few big left hands, but then eats an upkick. That was a stupid, lazy kick, and it could have cost Mousasi. It didn't, but it could have. 30-27 Mousasi
WINNER: Gegard Mousasi by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
STAR RATING AND FINAL THOUGHTS: (*) Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. Jab. That was the stand up version of lay and pray. I preferred it to wall and stall, but whatever.
The metroPCS move of the fight was a jab. I shit you not.
