"I don't care about belts and all that stuff. It's nice and all that and I will take the belt and everything, but going into any fight, I don't care if it's your first fight for the UFC, your first time on the main card, your first time as the main event, all that matters is that you have to win. I can't emphasize that enough. It doesn't matter if the belt is on the line, whether it's 'win or go home, loser leaves the UFC' or whatever, it doesn't matter. All that is just extra shenanigans to sell fights, I don't care. I'm going to go out there to win every single fight. That's it."
-During a media conference call on Tuesday for next week's UFC on Fox 7 card, UFC Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson explains what drives him.
Penick's Analysis: Henderson's been pretty consistent with this line of thinking, and it's a smart one to have. He just wants to be the best there is in the lightweight division, and while the belt around his waist represents that, all that matters to him is that he continues winning fights. He's got to do that against Gilbert Melendez next week, and he's well aware of what that means to him. He's got to keep the concept of "just win" in his mind, because it drives him to continue competing at the level he's been at for the last several years, and we'll see if that's enough when he takes on Melendez next week.
