UFC 161 officially heads to Winnipeg on June 15; Shogun vs. Nogueira confirmed

The UFC is officially headed to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada this June. In a press conference in Winnipeg on Tuesday, UFC Director of Operations in Canada Tom Wright announced that UFC 161 will emanate from the MTS Centre on June 15.

Though Wright said the UFC wasn't prepared to announce a main event for the card, he did confirm a previously reported bout between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. That fight will take place on the night's main pay-per-view card.

Tickets for the event will go on sale to the general public on Friday, April 12, with presales to UFC Fight Club members on April 10 and UFC Newsletter subscribers on April 11.

The UFC 161 event will be one of three events in Canada in 2013, one less than the UFC initially planned for the year. They will head to Montreal next week with UFC 158, then Winnipeg in June, and finally in Toronto in September.

They were planning a fourth event for the year, but Wright said that was tied to an "Ultimate Fighter: Canada" that has been pushed into 2014.
