A Good Day To Die Hard

A Good Day To Die Hard.

As an action movie it was an entertaining, but average. As a Die Hard movie its pretty much the worst of the five movies in my opinion. Watching the movie you realize its a completely unnecessary and lazy sequel in the series.

The story revolves around John McClane going to Russia because he finds out his son has been arrested for murder in Moscow. What McClane is going to do once he gets there they don't say how he is going to help his son. Turns out his son Jack is actually a CIA agent who is in the midst of a operation where he is trying to save a political prisoner who has been targeted for assassination. McClane literally walks in front of his sons truck as his son is escaping from Russian mercenaries. His son abandons him in the street and McClane, who still thinks his son is a murderer, just steals someone's car and gets in on the chase and starts crashing into the mercenaries.

The movie doesn't even feel like a Die Hard sequel, it feels more like a spin off film. It should be called Son Of Die Hard because Jai Courtney, who plays John Jr, is the real lead of the movie. Willis is playing second fiddle in his own franchise and spends the entire movie standing around making fun of his son. Throughout the entire movie McClane's son complains that McClane is in the way and he is right, McClane fucks up the mission at the beginning of the movie and at no point does he actually do anything that makes it necessary that he continues with his son on this mission to save this prisoner. McClane doesn't even save the day at the end of the movie, nor does he even kill the villain. His son gets the glory moments in the movie and it just pisses you off to watch Bruce Willis take a backseat in a Die Hard movie in favor of a younger star. I can't stress enough how little Bruce Willis actually does in this movie. You honestly could've done the entire movie without him and called it something else and it wouldn't have changed the story at all.

Bruce Willis is already talking about doing a Die Hard 6 and says he wants Jai Courtney to be in that one as well. Its not surprising watching Die Hard 5. Bruce Willis wants to do another movie where he'll get paid a shit load of money and have someone else do all the work.

The acting is alright here, Bruce Willis seems like he is actually trying again compared to most of his movies lately. But the plot is an awful convoluted mess. It all feels like one big cheesy reason to set the movie in Russia. It also has tons of twists as the story goes which makes it even worse. Don't wanna give away who the villain is but when you find out it just makes you confused even more.

Not sure if they are going to be able to make another Die Hard after this. Its so weak that its probably best if they just let it go. If Bruce Willis can't handle big action movies anymore then let him leave Die Hard behind and keep making Red sequels where he doesn't have to do a lot.
